Determining how many wedding dance lessons you'll need is difficult. Some couples become more comfortable dancing together faster than other couples, so there is no rule of thumb.
Do you have previous experience dancing together?
If you have previous experience dancing together, my 6-lesson package may be enough lessons to learn and master a first dance. If you are willing to put in the time practicing in between lessons, you'll become even more proficient in the six weeks of lessons.
If you've never danced together as a couple, the 10-lesson package gives you the most flexibility to learn, make mistakes and become much comfortable dancing together. For couples that are already confident, the 10-lesson package offers the chance to learn a more advanced wedding dance, perhaps with a lift and more advanced steps.
If time is not on your side when you begin lessons, three wedding dance lessons should be enough to learn three to five steps that you can alternate between during the first dance. I don't recommend learning a choreographed first dance if your wedding is less than a month away. There are too many factors to worry about in those last few weeks and trying to memorize a wedding dance might add stress.
Comfort Level, Experience, Practice and Expectations
The number of wedding dance lessons you will need varies depending on your comfort level, previous dance experience, dedication to practicing in between lessons and overall expectations. In other words, if you want to look like Fred and Ginger, you probably need more than three lessons.
And remember, a dance can always get better. Even if you spend all of your lessons learning the dance, you'll still need plenty of time to work out the kinks.
